Mount Dora
History
First United Methodist Church has been impacting Mount Dora and the surrounding communities since 1880. Join us in 2030 for a celebration of our 150th anniversary of forming disciples of Jesus Christ who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously locally and around the world.
Who we are
Since 1880, First UMC Mount Dora has served the local community as a warm, Christ-centered church dedicated to loving God and neighbor through purposeful worship, friendship, service, and witness. Every Sunday, we gather for three services. Traditional Worship is at 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, featuring liturgical traditions, our pipe organist, and choral music, alongside a modern Contemporary Worship service at 9:30 AM led by our live Praise Team. Whenever a month has a fifth Sunday, our congregation comes together as one church family for a special unified service at 10:00 AM. Families are supported throughout Sunday mornings with childcare for infants through preschoolers, plus dedicated Kids’ Church at 9:30 AM and Bible Fun at 11:00 AM. During the week, discipleship thrives through Wonderful Wednesdays and children’s worship arts, our Barefoot Student Ministries (grades 6–12) with fellowship, games, music, and circle groups, and adult Bible studies and ministries. Beyond our campus walls, we put faith into action through vital community outreach, including the Fifth Avenue Thrift Shoppe, Lake Cares food distribution, and regional and global mission partnerships.

We are called as a church to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with Mount Dora and the surrounding communities with our heart, hands, and head. We will become an intergenerational and intercultural community that loves God through vital worship, life-changing small groups, and life-giving friendships. In response to our love of God, we will love our neighbors by helping and hosting in Jesus’s name.
